My media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

By looking at similar magazine products I was able to look at different magazines that have been already made and take some of their ideas and develop them into designs of my own. I found with most of my examples of other magazines that the colors used are normally blacks whites and one or two main colour’s that are bright and quite ‘out there’. As you can see that on my magazine I choose to use a bright green colour for my magazine because I think that the green shows up really well against all back ground colours on the magazine. Green is also a colour that can be associated with a wacky effect and I feel that magazines such as NME do have a slight wacky and rocky feel to them. In NME the title is in a recognizable, and I tried to make a title that people would identify to being my magazine, similarly to NME. NME title is mostly all one colour and I wanted mine to be just one colour also, although NME has a white rim outside the sides of it, I developed mine to have shades of white going through the title rather than on the outside. NME had strap lines also and I tried to encorporate the strap line meanings of NME to be simular to my magazine.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Continued...

My contents page had to busy as the NME pages are very busy, however I developed this to my own style by adding some conventions of the NME contenst page and idea of my own to come up with a NME music magazine style contents page.
I wanted to encorporate the colours that stand out the most as I wrote in my evaluation earlier, as that is what they have done in the contents page in NME. The NME contents page includes alot of music buisness such as new bands and songs out and I encorporated that into my magazine also. Although my contents page is not as busy as the expample NME version, i still encorporated some of the main traits from the NME version into my design and i was happy with the out come.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Double page spread.

In my double page spread I used one particular block colour just as in the double page spread from NME, I developed thier idea of just using a white back groud to change into a grey one. another thing i went along with however developed it is the text. NME used text that is included in the text, I did the same. How ever the style in which it is put on there is simular but not exactly the same. I liked the idea of the white and black on top of eachother so i developed that into my own style by tilting them to the side.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Before I started the product I had used photo shop but not nearly to the extent that i had to learn in order to create my music magazine. I have learned alot about photography through taking the pictres and getting the lighting exactly right in order for it to look proffesional. During the construction of my magazine I took alot of differant pictures to check what would work on my front cover, contents and double page spread.

I learned to use photo shop and all its tools to cut out and tweek my pictures to the way I wanted them. I was also able re-arrange my magazine to make it more to the conventions of music magazine.
Through out the process of making my magazine I have learned on a bigger scale how magazines are made and distributed through out the industry.
I have used the internet to research different magazines already out there and differant magazine companies. By using the companies already on the net, I was able to use the internet to learn more about distributers and how they work. I was able to get hold of NME magazines to get a better idea of the conventions that I can encorporate into my magazine.

Looking back at my preliminary I have learned.

I have learned now much more complex it is to make a real music magazine, I have learned how to make a good picture that would be good enough to be used in a magazine and I learned how to take the pictures and how to set up the set. I have learned more about photoshop and how to use all the fonts and tools. In my preliminary I didn't have much knowledge into fonts or how to put them into photo shop, but since I started and began to develop my skills with my major project, I was able to learn how to find fonts on the internet and put them onto my project to create a better magazine effect. My photo shop skills evolved through out the process of my magazine creation.

How did I attract/address my audience.

By looking at the conventions in other magazines similar to my own I was able adapt conventions from their magazines and develop them into my own. By looking at magazines such as NME and KERRANG, I know for a fact that they are able to work, so I know that if I develop some of their conventions in to my own it was more likely to make my magazine more successful. I already knew the sort of things that my magazine should include to interest music lovers for my type of magazine, so should make sure that those type of things that need to be included are put on the front for strap lines in order to grab the readers attention. The model that I used should be in with the type of music that the magazine represents. I also conducted a questionairre to help me decide what type of things I should do with my magzine down to colours and layout.

Who would the audience be for my media product?

By doing some research into magazines that are around today I was able to conduct some research into asking people what sort of magazines they prefer, to get a better idea to the audience my magazine will be aimed at. After I conducted the research I decided that my magazine would be for 15-25.
Example reader for my magazine would be Ben Fox. He is 18 years old and lives in the centre of Bristol. He enjoys playing his guitar and groing to gigs, he also follow bands. he dresses we but he is still quite grunged down, he wears a small chain around his next and he wears jeans, trainers and a top that has a band on it front of it. he has apart time job in a shop and he uses the money to go to fesivals and gigs. He enjoys reading magazines such as Kerrang and NME, as he likes the band news and the gig information. He would listen to the arctic monkeys and muse along with heavy metal bands. He enjoys watching films such as pulp fiction and likes to go to the cinema to watch action films.
I think my magazine would appeal to Ben as he is a stero typical person who would read SMASH BOX. It may appeal to him because he enjoys simular magazines that i have modeled mine about such as NME.
